With Love From Vancouver Cupcakes
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -  Today we had everyone in the kitchen! Rinat mixed the dry ingredients. Chelsea pureed the beets. I combined the wet and the dry. Annabelle and Sarah sat perched on the counter, watching us pour velvety batter into crinkled parchment cups. It was a perfect afternoon of free flowing chatter and decadent cupcake creations....

"The Butchery" - My First Lesson on the Art of...
“Make room at the trough, for the noble pig knows that the more you share, the less likely you are to be eaten.” - Seen at Salumi For most, the idea of handling meat straight from the slaughter house is one we would rather leave up to our local butcher, or in most cases to whomever gets the bloody thing into its Styrofoam/cling-wrapped packaging.  Lately however, my need to know...

The Solution to Homesickness: Apricot Coconut...
Though I have been loving the experiences so far living abroad in London, now and again I’ll feel the pangs that make me realize I’m not going back to Vancouver any time soon.  Feeling a little homesick (mostly because I’ve miss the random bump-ins and spontaneous meet-ups a local would have walking through a city) I decided to bake something in my new home for the first...

The best of both worlds
There’s nothing like getting together with some friends over food. It’s one of my favourite ways to spend an evening, especially when we each bring together our talents to the table. This last potluck dinner had a “late harvest” theme to it and dishes varied from a Turnip Apple puff to Curried Farro Medley; there were even spiced lamb chops with apple cilantro chutney. Mmmm…. My own contribution...

Look No Further: The Best Straight-Up Classic...
My buddy Justin is an awesome guy. He is a pro climber, listens to peoples stories while preserving their cultures and homes as a profession, and amongst many other likable qualities, I recently had the great pleasure of discovering his talent at baking the BEST homemade classic cookies I have ever had. Now cookies are a hard thing to screw up most of time, but that usually ends up being the...

A Recipe for a Perfectly Balanced & Flaky Pie...
For the past 3 years I have been testing and reworking the crust for my apple pies diligently and vigorously.  For the most part, the motivation to get it right has been in the challenge of creating a freshly baked pie-crust that not only expresses the quality of the unsalted butter used so that the flavours of the pie (apple being my usual go-to) can really come out, but also the perfect...
